Bee-eater

There are several smaller Bee-eater colonies mainly in southern Germany. Two regions hold relatively large populations: The population at the Kaiserstuhl near Freiburg increased contimously since 1990. In 1996 at least 52 pairs have been breeding at this small mountain (Rupp & Saumer 1996). The poupulation in Saxony-Anhalt has been supported by favourable weather conditions and increased to 35 to 45 breeding pairs in 1996.
